This scene occurs immediately following the events of the Season 3 finale.
They remained in bed well after the sun crept under the dark curtains. Their eyes affixed to the cracks in the ceiling, the crevices in the corner–anywhere but the other’s face. Outside, they could hear Prudie’s muttering as she tended to the horses alone.
“Demelza,” Ross began, his voice slack, barely more than a whisper. “Are you–”
“Nay, Ross,” his wife replied softly. “We’ll not talk about this. What happened last night ’tis done. What ‘ee do today an’ the next–that’s where your mind need be.”
Ross opened his mouth to speak, then thought better of it.
